ATLAS: A Toroidal Lhc ApparatuS

ATLAS is one of the detectors approved for the LHC(Large Hadron Collider) situated at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN). The LHC will be the highest energy collider in the world, colliding protons on protons with an energy of 14 TeV.

The primary physics goal of ATLAS is to search for the Higgs Boson. In addition it will provide a rich environment to study many aspects of particle physics such as CP violation in B decays, top physics and QCD. Searchs for new physics beyond the Standard Model such as Supersymmetry will be a major activity.

An international collaboration composed of more than 1500 people from over 100 different institutes and universities all over the world are currently designing and building the ATLAS detector.
